My name is Basil Hangemanole, and I am originally from Washington D.C. I am a 1971 graduate of the University of Maryland, and I served my country in the U.S. Army (ABN) from 1963-1969. I relocated to Massanutten, VA almost 40 years ago and have called the Valley home ever since. Having been in the construction industry for over 25 years, I have a deep understanding of how homes are built, and now my passion is helping others buy and sell real estate. I became a real estate agent for Kline May in 1995. I specialize in all types of real estate, but I especially enjoy working with first-time home buyers because they have a lot of questions, and it’s fun to teach them how to navigate the real estate market.

When I’m not practicing real estate, I love to be outdoors: bicycling all year round and teaching ski lessons in the winter.

Bicycle Advocacy is another passion of mine. I served two terms on the board of the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition. I collaborated with another bicyclist to promote safe bicycling here in Rockingham County. The committee that was formed to help achieve that goal was the Rockingham County Bicycle Advisory Committee (RCBAC). Today the RCBAC is up and running, and they have moved into areas well beyond any initial expectations.

Another project that I was involved with was to help supply the four County high schools with bicycles for their Drivers Ed program. The initial funding for that program came from the Board of the DR100, a memorial non-profit created in honor of a doctor killed while bicycling on Port Republic Road. In May 2013, I was invited to join the DR100 Board of Directors.

In addition to Bicycle Advocacy, I enjoy bicycling on vacation too. In the fall of 2011, I rode my Trek 520 across the southern tier of the United States from San Diego, CA to St Augustine, FL with three of my friends. This is a link to our blog about the trip. The trip took 46 days, and we camped out all but two nights.

Whether your questions are about real estate, bicycling, or skiing, please call me. I will work aggressively for you.
